Our society offers many opportunities to get involved through different areas of what we do. One way is through getting involved in one of exciting challenges such as climbing Mount. Kilimanjaro or a smaller challenge such as a skydive. These are great ways to get involved with the society and have a once-in-a-lifetime experience while doing so. We also run raids (essentially bucket collections) which are great fun to be involved in while raising amazing amounts of money for great causes. Events is another fab way to be involved, whether you help organise them or just come to them we guarantee you will have a good time while meeting new people. As a society, we also pride ourselves on running some of the best socials so make sure you come to one or two if you can.

Committee

Our executive committee is made up of a number of committed members of our society all working together in specific roles from our President and Vice President leading us all to our Challenges, Events and Campaigns Coordinators and Officers organising the fundraising and our Marketing and Promo Coordinator and Secretary who tell everyone about all of it. Getting involved in the committee is one of the best ways to get involved in the society and join a team working towards the same goal in their own ways. Every year the elections run in 2nd or 3rd term to replace all those leaving the committee and is a great time to go forward and shout your love of RaG to everyone.

We are currently on the look out for committee and you can see the list of roles below.

Vice President - The President’s own personal guardian angel. They essentially hold the same role as president as they take over and ensure Pres can get a break. Pres and VP are usually the people who take over other people’s responsibilities when they need time off.

Treasurer - They oversee financial secs, help with the count and keeping a running total of everything fundraised. They, alongside Pres and VP, help make decisions based on money and funding.

Secretary - In charge of taking the minutes at every committee meeting, making/sending out the weekly email and responding to emails and Facebook messages on the group page.

Challenge Coordinator - As the title indeed suggests, they coordinate all our challenges! They work with Pres and VP to choose the challenges for the year and then are the point of call for challenge leaders. They help them with follow up (Facebook messaging those interested in challenges) and supporting participants in reaching their fundraising targets.

2 x Events Coordinators - In charge of putting on regular events throughout the term whether that be their own or collabs with others societies. They hold weekly meetings with their events team who help come up with ideas for events and the running of them (often includes some arts and crafts time). The biggest events are usually those in Movember, the Venue Christmas Party, RaG Week and RaG Ball. They help decide which charities these events will run for also.

Marketing and Promo Coordinator - In charge of regular posting on our social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram) and keeping the website updated. They work with the Design Officer to ensure RaG is presented as well as it can be. They are also in charge of the promotion of the society themselves and challenges, ranging from organising freshers fair to organising the flyering of campus. They also coordinate the PR Officers who are volunteers who work to help the promotion of the society and challenges too, especially in person.

Design Officer - This role was previously known as media officer. Some knowledge of graphic design is required as they design everything the society needs. It varies year on year but that may be new t-shirts/hoodies or promotional materials, but always involves Facebook banners! They are the unsung heroes of RaG that make us look good.

Campaigns Officer - In charge of running the campaigns throughout the year. A role that can really be shaped by the person in it. RaG always takes part in the Movember campaign alongside the rest of the university but other campaigns RaG have arranged this year included Environmental October, raising money and awareness for Rainforest Trust UK, and Empowerment Month, raising awareness of the empowerment movement and money for Women for Women International UK.

2 x Financial Secretaries - Count all the money! Twice a week (less depending on amount there is) these guys meet (with the Treasurer too) to count all the money fundraised either by our participants or other societies. But don’t you worry, you use a machine to do this so there’s not actually counting involved!

The elections will most likely take place early next term but you can fill out the form below to state you interest or you can message us on our social media (if you’re unsure our president, Lizzie Fisher, or our vice president, Rhian Quenby, on Facebook). We are happy to answer all your questions and look forward to welcoming our new committee!

Fundraising in societies

This year we have brought in a fundraising officer who will not only be a point of contact for members in our society taking part in fundraising but also societies. A helpful guide to fundraising at Kent will be available on our website soon so stay tuned.

Membership

Membership to our wonderful society is one of the best ways to get involved with us and it comes with lots of perks. For just £5, you get access to all our events, challenges and socials as well as our full fundraising support for your events or challenge participation. If that was not enough, you also get a RaG T-shirt which is perfect to wear during your fundraising and at our favourite ‘Purple T-Shirt’ social. So, what more reason could you need? Sign up for your membership here.

Events team

Another way to get involved with RaG is to be a part of our events team. Our events team, is exactly what it sounds like, it is the team that work their magic by organising and running all our events throughout the year. These events include the popular Christmas party at Venue (Kent’s on campus club) and our annual RaG Ball which concludes the amazing year of fundraising with a tasty meal and the RaG awards. The events team meets once a week and is lead by our Events Coordinators, Emma Meakin and Sam Grayston. We also currently have room to be one of our events officers which are integral parts of the events team. The Events Team meet once a week in term time so feel free to come along and see how you can help. If you are interested in more information then look on our events page, join the events team group or filling out the form at the bottom of this page. Sam and Emma can also be messaged on Facebook directly.
